Students randomly selected an everyday object that they drew realistically and then in a series of six panels transformed the object into something completely different. It was another test for their creativity as we explore how to think more creatively in a series of lessons this trimester.
This is a look at what's happening with my Create, Make, Learn endeavors at Summit Street and Thomas Fleming Schools in Essex Junction, VT.

Fifth Grade Shape Story Creativity Challenge #2
We looked at the Book Picture This by Molly Bang which explores how simple shapes, color, size and placement can illustrate a story. Groups had to randomly choose a title of a song, story or nursery rhyme and attempt to create art work that would allow other teams to guess their title.
Fifth Grade Creativity Challenge #1
Students had to build a freestanding tower that would support our stuffed art cat. The only catch was Mrs. Foley didn't say where art cat had to be...the very top or securely at the base! Amazing team work was witnessed in the building challenge and the deconstruction challenge.
The Giant Squash that came to Ms. Mahoney's Room!
When you find a giant overgrown squash you bring it into kindergarten to share. The kids were so excited to guess its weight and length. We measured and weighed it and then looked at with a magnifying glass and proceeded to draw every detail. Anything can be a cause for wonder when you are in kindergarten.
Fleming Original Works PTO Art Fundraiser
I hoped you enjoyed the beautiful magnets your students brought home in the last few weeks. Students in fifth grade learned about the artist Peter Max as they made fantasy inspired landscapes. Fourth grade studied the work of Paul Klee as they made geometric towers.
Making Stabiles with Ms. Trombley's Class
Ms. Trombley's class studied Force and Motion in science and as part of arts integration we learned about the work of artist Alexander Calder and mobiles and stabiles. We began our journey of shapes, color, sculpting and balance. Stay tuned for our final projects.
