Here are a few samples of our Shape Story projects. These compositions were based on books, Nursery Rhymes, and songs. Students could only use shape and color without any drawn lines to tell their Shape Story.
This is a look at what's happening with my Create, Make, Learn endeavors at Summit Street and Thomas Fleming Schools in Essex Junction, VT.

Fifth Grade Metamorphosis Final Projects
As part of our creativity series of challenges we started by choosing an everyday object found in the art room and in a series of six panels we transformed it into something completely different!
Kindergarten/First Grade Completed Birdbaths
After several weeks of waiting for our clay birdbaths to be completed they have finally returned form the kiln at Fleming. Students made their birds sitting on a pinch pot birdbath and then it was sent to off to the kiln for the first bisque fire. Upon their return we learned about glazing and how some glazes are like fireworks when they go into the hot kiln the colors burst out and look very different from how they appear in the jars. This is a difficult concept for young students. The last journey into the kiln was for the glaze firing. The most exciting part was putting a blue glass gem into the birdbath so it would melt and give the appearance of water.

Thank You Ms. Raemer!
Mr. Guilmette's Maker Project
Students from Mr. Guilmette's fifth grade class were deciding on a Butterfly Effect project and they unanimously agreed that they would create toys and games for kids in need. The project is driven by the students, as they engineer games and toys. They had to come up with material lists, sketch out their design and begin building. Stay tuned for more updates as the projects progress.
Mrs. Hall's Book Making Project
Lesson one was the most fun and messy. We made book covers by making bubble prints, blowing ink spiders or making painted texture papers. This will lead into our "History of Me" books coming soon!
K/1 Ceramic Birds and Birdbaths
We made clay birds and birdbaths and after a trip to the kiln at Fleming it was time to glaze them. They will have a second flight to the kiln for the glaze fire.
