Fifth Grade Fantasy Trees

Students listened to an excerpt from the Hobbit that focused on the Hobbit's home in a  tree complete with a round green door. we discussed what you might find inside our own fantasy trees. Students first designed their trees which had to show season, time of day, foreground, middle-ground and background with a door and windows. These were drawn with oil pastels and the doors and windows were cut out with Xacto knives and transparency film was added and colored with Sharpie for a stained glass effect. . The second part was drawing their fantasy world with colored pencil. This drawing was then added behind the door.
